In addition to being a whiskey aficionada I also am a enthusiast of celebrating all sorts of occasions. When an invite to a National Rum Day event popped into my outlook I was intrigued and excited; who doesn’t love to try new cocktails? I declared Wednesday opposite day and headed downtown to the newly acclaimed Mother’s Ruin in trendy Nolita for some Sailor Jerry cocktails.
Entering Mother’s Ruin I immediately digged the casual-chic appeal. The bar was inviting and the crowd relaxed, but my favorite aspect were the sunken booths underneath two huge bay windows lining the street front. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail and watch downtown walk by.
The night was comprised of four signature cocktails made with Sailor Jerry Rum presented by the East Coast Brand Ambassador, Paul Monahan. Each cocktail was carefully made and I was delighted by the quality of the rum. For not being a rum drinker I somehow managed to enjoy all four cocktails, especially the Banana Hammock!
1.5 oz Sailor Jerry
.75 oz homemade banana syrup (1:1:1 ratio)
.75 fresh lime juice
Dash of angostura bitters
Shaken over ice. Strained into a coupe glass with spiced banana dusted rim
(Spiced banana dusted rim is sugar carmelized with homemade banana syrup and SJ)
